The Man I Choose

 

The Man I Choose is a music-centered program that helps young men examine the messages about masculinity they receive from music, media, peers, family, and society. Through song analysis, guided discussion, reflective writing, and creative expression, participants explore how these messages shape their identity, values, and choices, and consider the kind of man they choose to become.

Music and media play a powerful role in shaping how young people understand themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. The Man I Choose creates space for young men to slow down, examine those messages, question assumptions, and develop their own perspectives and values.

How It Works

1. Listen & Analyze: Participants examine songs and the messages they communicate about masculinity, relationships, identity, strength, success, and choices.

2. Reflect & Discuss: Guided discussion and reflective writing help participants connect those messages to their own experiences and consider how they influence the way they see themselves and others.

3. Express & Choose: Participants use writing and creative expression to articulate their perspectives, values, and ideas about the kind of man they choose to become.
