Student Voice
MeMA-Music encourages students to share their voices and be co-creators with greater levels of student agency and shared decision-making. Students’ voices involve all students’ opinions, beliefs, values, and cultural backgrounds. They are encouraged to draw upon their own experiences in the real world outside the classroom to examine and better understand injustices they may be facing and learn how they can take action and contribute to making change. They participate in thoughtful dialogue that fosters civic and social awareness in a safe and holistic environment. The MeMA-Music “Messages of Change” culminating project requires students to create and voice unique and powerful messages that articulate the changes they envision for the world. They choose meaningful social justice topics and artistic mediums to complete their projects and co-create with their peers. As a result, students realize their words can be persuasive and represent the voice of change.
